India is a country with a very rich heritage. It has made immense contribution to humanity in various fields like mathematics, science, medicine, astronomy, yoga, etc., far exceeding that of any other country. However, over the past few centuries, somewhere, India started lagging behind.
The Indian Institute of Metals, Delhi Chapter has acquired a unique and important status among all Chapters of IIM. Founded in March 1953, this Chapter celebrated its Silver Jubilee in October 1978 and Golden Jubilee in September 2002. Late Dr. D N Wadia, the internationally famous geologist, was the first Chairman of Delhi Chapter and continued until 1963. He was followed by eminent metallurgists and senior government officials, who provided leadership, guidance and wise counsel for Chapter's growth.
The Indian Institute of Metals – Delhi Chapter celebrated Chapter NMD Celebrations as well as IIM Foundation Day on 24 February 2018 in the Auditorium of Delhi Chapter building at Tughlakabad Institutional Area. A Technical Talk on "A Reflexion on the Financial Health of Steel Sector in India and Role of Technology Suppliers" was delivered by Mr. Manoranjan Ram, Associate Vice-President, Paul Wurth & SMS Group. Five prominent members, associated with IIM Delhi Chapter, viz. Mr. P K Bajaj, Mr. R K Vijayavergia, Mr. N K Kakkar, Mr. P N Shali and Mr Deepak Jain, were felicitated for their outstanding contributions to Metallurgical profession & Industry and Indian Institute of Metals.
