IMMS 2025 |
The Metal and Metallurgy industry is experiencing dynamic changes both globally and in India. Globally, the industry is witnessing a surge in demand driven by construction, automotive and renewable energy sectors, alongside challenges such as environmental regulations, energy consumption, and fluctuating commodity prices. There is a significant push towards sustainability, with innovations in recycling and carbon reduction technologies. In India, the sector is buoyed by government initiatives like "Make in India" and infrastructure development projects, making the country a key player in steel and aluminum production. However, the industry also faces hurdles like regulatory challenges and dependency on imported raw materials. Technological advancements in digitization, automation and energy efficiency are pivotal in shaping the industry's future, aligning with global trends towards more sustainable practices.
The mining and metal industry is positioned to experience tremendous growth in the coming years due to the government’s on-going efforts to expand the sector and growing participation from the private sector. Domestic consumption has always been the key driver of growth for the Indian mining and metals industry. In the future, exports and domestic demand expansion are projected to play significant roles in the industry’s expansion and its contribution to GDP growth.
Appreciating the need for a platform to demonstrate the skills & challenges faced by the sector, The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) – Delhi Chapter, in collaboration with DIIA Event Solutions organized the first of its kind – International Metal & Metallurgy Summit (IMMS) on 28 February 2025 at New Delhi. The focus theme was "Smart Metallurgy: Digital Transformation and Automation", The Summit provided a comprehensive convergence of the stakeholders & the key elements and actions related to Metal & Metallurgy. It provided a premier inter-disciplinary platform for Industry Leaders, Researchers and Academia to present and discuss the most recent trends, innovations, and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in the Industry. It also served as a platform for Networking, Knowledge Exchange, and Collaboration, enabling participants to stay updated on industry developments, discover new technologies, business opportunities, and foster partnerships.
In addition to the Inaugural Session (where stalwarts of Metals’ Industry expressed their view-points), the following three technical sessions were organized during the Event:
- Process Modelling Automation and AI Technologies
- Digital Transformation
- Smart Manufacturing Technologies
Eminent experts from different disciplines from India and abroad participated in the Conference and presented technical papers covering various issues of Metals and Minerals industries (relating to above mentioned Technical Areas). There was a good mix of Policy Makers, Government Officials, CEOs /Top Management Personnel, Engineers and Professionals, Mining and Mineral Engineers, Material Scientists and Technologists, Technology / Equipment Manufacturers and Suppliers, Consultants, R&D Professionals and Academicians, Key Personnel of Core & Allied Industries, Trade Delegations, Buyer and Sourcing Personnel, etc. amongst the participants and speakers during the Event
